'Severe' means winds of 58mph or higher and/or hail of 0.75" in diameter or larger.

SLGT risk implies well-organized severe thunderstorms, but in small numbers and low coverage.

MDT risk implies a larger concentration of severe thunderstorms and greater magnitude of severe weather.

HIGH risk area means a major severe weather outbreak is expected.
